We are thrilled to introduce Cristina Ortiz Vivas as the new Head Sailing Coach at Lake Forest Sailing. Her expertise as both a sailor and a coach makes her an excellent fit to continue the proud traditions of Lake Forest Sailing while guiding our young sailors to reach their highest potential.
Cristina brings an outstanding record on and off the water. As a competitive sailor, she has represented Mexico in eight World Championships, competed in multiple international regattas, and completed two Olympic campaigns. She is a five-time National Champion in Mexico and the recipient of the prestigious Luchador Olmeca Trophy, awarded to the country’s best athlete of the year.
Her coaching achievements are equally impressive. Cristina has qualified three sailors for Mexico’s Opti National Circuit in 2024 and two for the 2025 circuit — including one selected to represent Mexico at the South American Championships. She has experience coaching Optis, Lasers, C420s, and Hobie 16s.
This summer, Cristina directed the Summer Sailing Program at the Annapolis Yacht Club in Maryland. She is scheduled to join us in Lake Forest on October 1, 2025. Until then, Naomi Jamboretz will continue managing the program through the Fall Season, and our contract coach, River Parquin, will join in a couple of weeks to start the season. Once Cristina arrives, she and River will coach your sailors for the remainder of the season. After the Fall Season, Naomi and Cristina will work together to guide Lake Forest Sailing into its next exciting chapter.
