In the spring of 2021, Lake Forest Parks and Recreation (LFPR) re-launched its Lake Forest Jr. Scouts girls’ softball program, which has taken off. The 2021 teams were the first LFPR house league teams to participate with other local recreation teams in 15 years. The Lake Forest Jr. Scouts fielded teams at all levels, with two teams at the third and fourth-grade levels. One of the third and fourth-grade teams won back-to-back league titles for two years running, which is a fantastic accomplishment. Lake Forest Jr. Scouts Girls Softball is an all-encompassing program comprised of girls from Lake Bluff and Lake Forest.
“The Lake Forest Jr. Scouts softball program is a developmental program for young women athletes to help build their athletic performance and grow as young women. Having been a coach in this program for two years, I have had the honor of helping grow the passion for softball within each girl and watching them work to improve each day. As a coach, my goal is to help show these girls the impact softball has on me on and off the field and to be able to share my passion for inspiring youth athletes. Softball is not just about the game; it is about friendships, leadership, self-reliance, personal responsibility, and creating a second family to help each other grow. As I have heard many times throughout my career, there is no “I” in team, and the Lake Forest Scouts Softball Program has proven that.” – Madison Johnson, Coach.
In 2023 LFPR looks to field a team at all levels and is looking forward to starting up a true Travel League in addition to the house league currently running. “I’m looking forward to this season. It is looking bright, and we have a group of really talented players coming back to us from other towns. We are hoping to have more than one team in each division and are ultimately looking to help feed Lake Forest High School with more players for 2023 and beyond.” - Ken Pierini, Program Supervisor, Lake Forest Parks & Recreation.
Lake Forest Jr. Scouts softball program begins in April and runs through mid-July, with games played on weekdays and weekends throughout the North Shore. The program also features several off-season training clinics led by professional coaching. For more information and to register for programs, visit our webpage: www.LFParksandRec.com.
