She holds a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from The Erikson Institute in Chicago, a Bachelor Degree in Art from the University of Iowa and is also a fully credentialed Montessori director. One of the highlights of Lisa's professional education was participating in a teacher-training program in Reggio Emilia, Italy studying at the Loris Malaguzzi International Center. This project-based environment where students creatively explore what they are interested in fosters skills such as enthusiasm, curiosity and perseverance. Through the Erikson Masters program Lisa has been trained to engage students in STEAM learning opportunities that incorporate science, technology, engineering, art and math. Her specific areas of interest include utilizing quality literature and storytelling to encourage language and literacy, the use of block play to promote STEM and prioritizing trusting relationships between teachers and families. Lisa works collaboratively with the talented team at Kinderhaven and our supportive families to create a beautiful and safe space for these youngest students to explore, build, design, create and ponder. Lisa's other family includes three grown children, two big dogs and one very patient husband.
